The EuroMulet 2026 will not take place in Creuse. Originally scheduled for September 5 and 6 in Chéniers, at Moulin de Piot, the European championship of the mullet haircut will change venues and head 80 kilometers further south. The event is relocated to Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, in Haute-Vienne, after several editions in Creuse since 2021.
The decision to move was influenced by uncertainties surrounding municipal elections and the mayor’s engagement, as well as the desire to continue growing, explained Guillaume Hays, the organizer.
“We found another municipality in Haute-Vienne that provides us with more support, offers equipment, and privatizes camping at a lower price than in Chéniers. We had tried to get a grant from the Creuse Department Council, but we were told it would be rejected, so we didn’t submit a formal request. We have always remained independent since the first edition with partners. We also think about the future of the festival; we don’t want it to end in 3 or 4 years, and we don’t want to offer a subpar festival. So, we found a great municipality in Saint Léonard de Noblat with a fantastic team, and they are very enthusiastic to host us.”
The organizers’ decision to change the location was prompted by a lack of financial support and commitment.
A positive move for Saint Léonard de Noblat
This change represents a significant opportunity for the town of Saint Léonard de Noblat, considering the event provides significant media visibility. This was evident in previous editions in Creuse.
The European Mullet Championship receives extensive coverage from iconic shows like “Quotidien” on TMC and numerous other media outlets, not to mention the interactions on social networks. Mayor Alain Darbon of Saint Léonard-de-Noblat understood this and supported this unique event.
Every year, the EuroMulet attracts between 1,200 and 1,500 participants from all over France, generating local economic benefits.
A philosophy
Beyond the change of location, the EuroMulet must maintain its extremely festive and self-deprecating spirit to celebrate this hairstyle that has long been mocked but has now become a symbol of nonconformity.
While the mullet haircut originally aimed to be outside of fashion, it seems that the phenomenon of the “mullet” has captured the fashion world, given the increasing number of followers of this hairstyle today.
