Thanks to the volunteers of the PTA of the Tornac and Massillargues-Attuech group of schools, the carnival brought a crazy atmosphere this Saturday, March 28, in front of the community center and the large spaces of the town hall. They were present from 2 p.m. to prepare for the event, but it wasn’t until around 3 p.m., the scheduled time, that they were joined by the diverse crowd of parents and children, in traditional or original costumes, showing the seriousness of their preparation.
They then approached Pétassou, impassive, perched on his trailer, unaware of the fate awaiting him. The approximately two hundred children and parents followed the noisy, colorful parade, animated by the confetti generously given to the children, as it made its way through the streets of Massillargues, under the amused and benevolent gaze of the residents. Upon return, Pétassou, having descended from his pedestal, was installed in the middle of a field, awaiting the verdict of the judgment: sentenced to be burnt, he was quickly executed on a pyre lit by the famous Mario, stepping out of his role as a popular hero.
The sight of Pétassou making a flamboyant end in a shower of fireworks excited the younger ones, who then rushed to the community center to enjoy the games set up in the large hall, including a bouncy castle, target shooting with axes, and duck fishing. Meanwhile, other children and parents lined up at the bar and the stands for cotton candy, popcorn, crepes, and cakes. The afternoon ended with music, on a lively note.
