JAKARTA – The Chief of Police in Riau, Inspector General Herry Heryawan, handed over 20 fishing machines to fishermen in the village of Bokor, West Rangsang district, in the Kepulauan Meranti district. This assistance aims to increase the productivity of fishermen while strengthening the economy of coastal communities.
The handover took place at the Tantya Sudhirajati auditorium of the Kepulauan Meranti police, on Tuesday, March 31. The machines provided included 10 units of the Motoya brand and 10 units of Pro-Quip, each received by 20 local fishermen.
Herry stated that the role of the police is not only to maintain security and public order, but also to participate in efforts to improve the welfare of citizens.
“We are aware that the police’s mission is not only to maintain security, but also to serve, protect, and care for society. Therefore, we must be able to make a real contribution to help improve society’s standard of living,” said Herry in a statement on Tuesday, March 31.
According to him, coastal communities have significant economic potential but require sufficient support in terms of resources to develop optimally.
“This assistance is hoped to boost the productivity of fishermen while enhancing the economic resilience of populations. We want populations to continue to develop, be self-reliant, and be able to utilize all existing opportunities,” stated Herry.
He also emphasized the importance of collaboration to promote sustainable development, including the involvement of various parties in opening economic and social access to populations.
“We cannot work alone. With human solidarity, we can broaden access to the population, in the areas of economy, education, and social welfare,” he declared.
In addition to the assistance handover, this activity is also linked to the planting of eight mango and honey mango seedlings as part of the green police approach adopted by the Riau police, which aims to encourage a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation.
The chief of Rangsang Barat, Jefri, said that the assistance had a direct impact on the fishermen’s activity in his region.
“This assistance is very beneficial for our fishermen as it can increase their activity and productivity, which has a direct impact on the population’s well-being,” stated Jefri.
A similar sentiment was expressed by the Chief of Police in Kepulauan Meranti AKBP Aldi Alfa Faroqi. He believed that the assistance was targeted and potentially capable of strengthening the local economy.
“The presence of the police commissioner also had a positive effect on public trust in the police, as evidenced by the public’s enthusiasm and the situation of activities taking place in a safe and conducive environment,” stated Aldi.
