JAKARTA – The Chief of Police of Riau, Irjen Herry Heryawan, handed over 20 fishing machines to fishermen in the village of Bokor, Rangsang Barat District, Kepulauan Meranti District. This assistance aims to increase the productivity of fishermen while strengthening the economy of coastal communities.

The handover took place at the Tantya Sudhirajati Auditorium of the Kepulauan Meranti Police on Tuesday, March 31. The provided machines included 10 units of the Motoya brand and 10 units of Pro-Quip brand, each received by 20 local fishermen.

Herry declared that the role of the police is not only to maintain security and public order but also to participate in efforts to improve the welfare of citizens.

“We are aware that the police mission is not only to maintain security but also to serve, protect, and care for society. Therefore, we must be able to make a real contribution to help reduce the standard of living of society,” Herry stated in a declaration on Tuesday, March 31.

He emphasized that coastal communities have significant economic potential but require sufficient support in terms of resources to develop optimally.

“This assistance is hoped to stimulate the productivity of fishermen, while enhancing the economic resilience of the populations. We want the populations to continue to develop, be self-sufficient, and be able to utilize all existing opportunities,” Herry stated.

He also highlighted the importance of collaboration to promote sustainable development, including the involvement of various parties in opening economic and social access to populations.

“We cannot work alone. With human solidarity, we can provide broader access to the population in the areas of economy, education, and social welfare,” he declared.

In addition to the assistance handover, this activity is also associated with the planting of eight mango seedlings and honey mangoes as part of the green police approach adopted by the Riau police, which aims to encourage a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation.

The chief of Rangsang Barat district, Jefri, stated that the aid had a direct effect on the activities of fishermen in his region.

“This assistance is very beneficial for our fishermen because it can increase their activity and productivity, which has a direct impact on the population’s well-being,” Jefri declared.

A similar sentiment was expressed by the Chief of Police of Kepulauan Meranti, AKBP Aldi Alfa Faroqi. He believed that the assistance was targeted and potentially capable of strengthening the local economy.

“The presence of the police commissioner also had a positive effect on public trust in the police, as evidenced by the public’s enthusiasm and the situation of activities taking place in a safe and conducive environment,” Aldi stated.
