Arnaud Denis’ life changed in 2023 following what was supposed to be a routine surgery. Three years later, the artist, who has been nominated multiple times for the Molière awards, no longer recognizes himself. Deprived of autonomy, he now lives bedridden, far from the stage he had to leave behind. In a raw testimony given to the Dauphiné Libéré on January 6, Denis described an existence reduced to the essential: “I can’t leave my house anymore, I have no social life, I have no life at all. I live like a terminally ill patient. Doctors can’t help me. They have nothing left to offer,” he lamented. Since March 18, the actor has been hospitalized in palliative care in Belgium, where two doctors have agreed to euthanasia.

A decision he made after careful consideration: “When I started not being able to wash myself and falling from indignity to indignity.” In a recent interview with Dauphiné Libéré, Denis detailed an unbearable daily routine: “I can’t walk anymore, I can’t wash myself, I can’t digest properly. I weigh around 69 kilos at 1.84 meters, but I barely eat one meal a day. I have developed cervicocranial instability. I can’t even hold up my neck. I am bedridden almost 24 hours a day. My daily routine consists of managing to eat one meal a day and taking a few steps in the room,” he explained.

Arnaud Denis admits to no longer fearing death. Despite initially refusing to give up, he now believes he has tried everything and has come to accept his situation. The actor attributed his decline to the placement of a polypropylene prosthesis to treat a hernia in the groin, which led to alarming symptoms appearing quickly.

Describing his ordeal, Denis mentioned severe degradation of his overall condition that doctors cannot explain, causing concern. Facing a medical dead-end in France, he sought treatment in the United States to have the implant removed but saw no improvement. Convinced he has exhausted all options, he now waits for official approval to end what he describes as an endless ordeal.
