A 49-year-old security guard is in the hospital after being shot in the Flatiron District of New York City on Monday afternoon, as reported by the NYPD. The incident occurred near his workplace in Midtown Manhattan at Madison Avenue and East 28th Street, close to Madison Square Park. The man was shot multiple times in the chest just before 12:30 p.m. Police sources revealed that the victim knew the suspected shooter and a dispute between them led to the shooting. However, the exact details of the argument are not yet known. The shooter is still at large, with detectives describing him as wearing a blue sweater as he fled the scene. Residents in the Flatiron area mentioned hearing gunshots but initially mistook them for sounds from a nearby movie set. The situation quickly turned into panic when it became clear that a real incident had occurred. Alfredo Garcea, a truck driver from Kearny, New Jersey, recalled hearing two shots from inside his truck but remained too frightened to exit. The victim has been identified as an off-duty security guard at The Prince George, a building known for affordable and supportive housing. Breaking Ground, the charity that operates the building, confirmed the victim’s identity and expressed deep sadness over the incident. The security guard is currently receiving treatment at Bellevue Hospital and is expected to recover. No arrests have been made yet, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers. All information provided will be kept confidential.
