Because not only Mario deserves his own amusement park, another video game will delight thrill-seekers: Minecraft World will open its doors in London next year.
Minecraft World will be on the lips of Minecraft fans from next year. This new themed park, entirely inspired by the game’s universe, represents an investment of 50 million pounds, hinting at the scale of the project. The project was unveiled during the Minecraft Live event on March 22, 2026, broadcast on the Minecraft YouTube channel.
Developed in close collaboration with Mojang Studios and Merlin Entertainments – the second-largest leisure group in the world behind Walt Disney Parks and Resorts – Minecraft World will open in 2027 at Chessington World of Adventures, located in Greater London. Minecraft World will offer roller coasters, interactive adventures, multiple play areas, as well as themed shops and restaurants, all built with blocks.
“We are absolutely thrilled to bring Minecraft’s creativity, exciting adventures, and fantastic environment to a theme park for the first time, at Chessington World of Adventures,” said Angela Jobson, Senior Vice President of Global Brand at Merlin Entertainments, in a statement shared by The Hollywood Reporter on March 21, 2026. “Minecraft World will allow friends and families to play, explore, and create together on a truly epic scale. In close collaboration with Mojang Studios, we are meticulously creating a world in which the global community of Minecraft fans will want to immerse themselves, to experience the game in a whole new way.”
Can we pay entry in blocks?
In a message posted on its site following the announcement, Merlin Entertainments asserts that this will be “one of our most ambitious theme park projects in recent years” and specifies that they are working closely with Mojang Studios “to ensure that every ride, attraction, and park decoration is undeniably in the spirit of Minecraft.”
“We expect the very first Minecraft roller coasters, the world’s largest Minecraft shop, delicious Minecraft-themed dishes, opportunities to meet creatures, and much more,” announced the Mojang Studios team in the aftermath of Minecraft Live. Following the release of the Minecraft film in 2025, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Senior Creative Director of Entertainment at Minecraft, indicates that Minecraft World represents a significant milestone in the development and expansion of the Minecraft universe.
Chessington World of Adventures is both a theme park, with roller coasters and family attractions, and one of the largest zoos in the UK. Accessible in 35 minutes by train from Waterloo station in London, it takes about 3 hours by train from Paris, or 6 hours by car. The Minecraft World section is expected to open in 2027.
