Here, on March 30, the Institute of Chemistry of the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology released a statement on its website titled “Necessary clarification regarding the first prize winning project of the national scientific and technological research competition (hereinafter referred to as the scientific and technological competition) for the academic year 2025-2026.” In this statement, the Institute of Chemistry affirmed that its staff was not involved in the winning project, presented by a group of students from Ninh Binh, and requested the competent authorities to quickly clarify the situation and preserve the honor of the scientists.
The student’s project is equivalent to a doctoral thesis.
This announcement follows the controversy surrounding a project by two students from Luong Van Tuy High School for gifted students (Ninh Binh province), the winners of the national first prize in the Scientific and Technological Competition 2025-2026 (organized by the Ministry of Education and Training). Titled “Development of multifunctional, fireproof, thermal-insulating, and antimicrobial polyurethane composite materials for applications in construction and daily life,” this project sparked outrage within the scientific community after several messages were published questioning the scientific integrity of the project.
