World Interclub Championships from February 13 to 15 at Snapper Rocks (Australia)
Representing France at the interclub world championships for a Breton club is a bit like when Stade Brestois defied logic and predictions by opening the door to the Champions League play-offs. The 29 Hood Penmarc’h first created a first feat by winning on May 25, in Mimizan (Landes), the title of French interclub champion under the noses of the Aquitaine clubs.
His second feat will consist of completing the 17,000 kilometers that separate Penmarc’h from the Australian Gold Coast to compete in the interclub world championships from February 13 to 15 at the Snapper Rocks spot (in Coolangatta) among 40 other qualified teams (1), the majority of which are Australians.
In surfing, an interclub competition takes place between four surfers: a master (over 40 years old), two open (including a replacement), a young person (U20) and an ondine (woman).
“Represent Penmarc’h, Brittany and France”
The five surfers from 29 Hood Penmarc’h to take part will be Thomas Joncour (43 years old, founding member of 29Hood, who will also serve as coach), Ian Fontaine (32 years old), Vianney Tshiula Lubanga (21 years old), Montaine Taconet (19 years old) and Gabriel Abiven (18 years old).
“Our goal is to represent Penmarc’h, Brittany and France and face the best surfers and their clubs on one of the sacred lands of surfing. It will also allow us to highlight our values, our athletes and to bring the experience back within the club,” specifies Ian Fontaine, one of the sure values of Breton surfing.
The 29Hood Penmarc’h has also launched an online prize pool (2) to finance its trip. And live your dream.
