Décryptage

BFMTV has reclaimed the top spot from CNews, which is neck and neck with LCI. Together, BFMTV, CNews, LCI, and Franceinfo captured over 11% of the audience in March. A record-breaking achievement.

March reshuffled the hierarchy of news channels. Taking advantage of intense international and political news to regain the lead, BFMTV ended CNews’s long reign. This hadn’t happened in 14 months.

With a 3.5% audience share, BFMTV outperformed its main rival, which attracted 3.2% of the viewers. CNews not only lost its crown. Overtaken by BFMTV, France’s top news channel for over a year finds itself also challenged by LCI, making a strong comeback and sharing the second position, tied with CNews. The only channel not affected by this upheaval, Franceinfo. The public service broadcaster remains in last place, finishing the month at 1.2%, even though it has gained 0.4 points over the year. However, at the time, like LCI, it was still far down in the channel rankings, on channel 27 which it has since swapped for channel 16.
