In 2022, Hartley, Hearts on Fire, the cult series of the 1990s, returned with a reboot of the same name on Netflix. Unfortunately, after three batches of episodes, the Australian series came to an end after its third season, available on the streaming platform since March 25, 2026. If you’ve watched it all, you know: Season 3 is full of several plotlines. And one of the major events of season 3 is the amusement park accident. Amerie and her friends spend the day at the carnival and hide until closing time. They decide to play a prank by turning on one of the rides. But the joke goes wrong: Clancy is injured and ends up in a coma.
Who is behind this bad joke? Contrary to what one might have thought, it’s not Liam. In the last episode of season 3, we learn that Sasha is the culprit. While attending a party on a boat, she confesses to setting off the amusement park ride to get back at being excluded from the group of friends. She turns herself in to the police and is seen doing community service.
Another question arises about the characters’ education! In the last episode, all the characters receive their diplomas during an “unofficial” ceremony organized by Stacy Woods, aka “Principal Woodsy,” and teacher Jojo Obah. “You’re now in the real world. You are adults,” the principal announces to them.
Relationships are also a major element of this third season. Who ends up with whom at the end of Hartley, Hearts on Fire? Do the couples survive? Noah and Amerie break up during the season because they disagree about the accident. Amerie feels guilty for coming up with the idea to start the ride and wants to confess, but Noah fears it will ruin their future and opposes it.
Once separated, Amerie then gets closer to Malakai, whom she has always loved. However, after graduation, Amerie joins Harper for her road trip. As they are about to leave, Malakai stops them on their way, forcing Amerie to get out of the car to talk to him. She and Malakai confess their love and share a kiss. Malakai promises to be there when Amerie returns.
The couple Ca$h and Darren is still going strong at the end of season 3. Darren moving to New York, they head towards a long-distance relationship despite Ca$h’s initial reluctance. Darren leaves Australia to pursue an acting career while Ca$h stays in Sydney, hoping to continue his tattooing career and take care of his grandmother.
What about Missy and Spider? At the beginning of season 3, Missy distances herself from Spider. He believes it’s because Missy is bisexual. To make sure, she wants to explore her sexuality with women, something Spider strongly opposes. Eventually, he decides to give Missy a free pass, which she tries to take advantage of by going to a concert.
However, he later realizes that this arrangement doesn’t work for him and goes to find her to tell her. He then catches his girlfriend kissing his best friend, Malakai. A kiss they blame on alcohol but puts an end to Missy and Spider’s relationship. As for Quinni, he starts a relationship with Taz.
