Closing of the Ramadan competition to memorize the Holy Quran for inmates of reintegration centers in the capital and the governorate of Sanaa
The general competition for the month of Ramadan for memorizing the Holy Quran, intended for inmates of the central prison and preventive detention centers in the capital and the governorate of Sanaa, ended today.
The competition, which took place over seven days, saw the participation of 59 inmates who competed in the following categories: “complete memorization of the Koran”, “fifteen chapters (Juz’)”, “ten chapters” and “five chapters”.
During the closing ceremony, which was attended by the Undersecretary of the Rehabilitation and Reform Authority at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Farran, the prosecutor of the rehabilitation center, Judge Hamoud Ishaq, the Director of Social Services of the Authority, Brigadier General Khalil Al-Na’ami, as well as several other officials, the winners of the first three places were rewarded, as well as all the participants in the different categories.
The director general of the capital’s central prison, Brigadier General Ali Abu Kahla, affirmed that this competition constitutes a true model of reform, stressing that penitentiary establishments are not only places of punishment, but also spaces intended to build the individual, to rehabilitate and reintegrate him into society.
He welcomed the efforts made by the management of the Authority to improve the living conditions of detainees and provide an environment conducive to their rehabilitation, noting that the management of the prison strives to ensure a deep, global and integrated reform, aimed at restructuring the personal journey of individuals.
For his part, the director of the prison monitoring department at the Presidency, Jihad Ghathaya, stressed that memorizing the Holy Quran represents a new beginning for inmates.
He assured that these efforts will not be in vain and that the competent authorities will pay special attention to those who have turned to the Holy Book with sincerity.
Jury Chairman Sheikh Hilal Al-Kulaibi noted that the competition revealed honorable examples of diligence and commitment, predicting an increase in the number of participants in the years to come.
In their speech, the participants expressed their gratitude to the management of the Authority and the rehabilitation centers for their support and supervision, affirming that memorizing the Holy Quran helped them overcome free time and idleness within the establishment.
At the end of the ceremony, marked by the reading of a poem, certificates and prizes were distributed to the winners and participants. Furthermore, the presidency of the Authority received the honorary shield of the prison, and the jury as well as the staff who contributed to the success of the competition were also honored.
