Since a landslide, the church in the village of Ropoto has become a popular attraction for visitors who come to defy the laws of balance.

Ravaged and abandoned by its 800 inhabitants after a landslide in 2012, the Greek village of Ropoto keeps its church almost intact. The subsidence of the ground caused the building to slide 200 meters below without causing the slightest visible crack in the walls. Since then, the church, which has remained immovable on a mountainside, has tilted 17 degrees, four times more than the Tower of Pisa in Italy.

Visitors passing through the Meteor region do not hesitate to take a detour to defy the laws of physics in this church like no other. HAS”You feel dizzy, like you’re drunk“, writes a visitor in a review on Google Maps. HAS”Once inside, standing requires constant effort. It’s a unique experience, definitely worth the detour”, adds another. Watching the videos on social networks, the experience brings its share of fears… and laughter!

Elsewhere in the world, other “leaning” buildings have become tourist attractions in spite of themselves. In Italy, in addition to the well-known Tower of Pisa, the “twin towers” of Bologna built in the 13th century are inclined by 1.3 (for the Asinelli Tower, the tallest) and 4 degrees (for the Garisenda Tower, the smallest). In northwestern Germany, Suurhusen Church tilts 5.19 degrees as its oak foundations continue to sink into marshy ground.
