A partnership worth $250,000 has been signed by the UQO Foundation and Groupe Loyal, in collaboration with the General Student Association.

The agreement, valid until 2031, will allow students to always receive a 50% discount on a taxi ride to or from both university campuses in Gatineau, Alexandre-Taché and Louis-Brault, as well as for their other everyday trips.

For example, a 10-kilometer journey during the day, with a total fare of $24.60 including the $4.10 imposed as the starting price, would cost $12.30.

According to the Foundation, this initiative will “reduce concerns related to transportation and alleviate the financial burden associated with mobility”, while also improving access to education.

Rector Murielle Laberge describes it as “a simple but targeted gesture that acts where constraints are real.”

“This partnership clearly illustrates the benefits of well-thought-out collaborations, rooted in the realities experienced by students. Within our student community marked by diverse paths, offering an additional solution when daily life goes beyond the usual framework provides more flexibility and room for maneuver for our students, both practically and financially.”

Alex Rizk, CEO of Groupe Loyal, believes that beyond the numbers, this agreement represents “students arriving on time for class, families accessing healthcare, and communities on the move.”

The UQO General Student Association (AGE-UQO) describes it as a “tangible benefit for the student community,” with their general advisor Oumar Fofana agreeing after experiencing it firsthand — a recent ride only cost him $6 — that this type of service makes a real difference.
