Before departure, coach Diego Giustozzi reduced the squad to 15 players. According to the plan, the technical staff will continue to assess the players’ form and finalize the official list of 14 players the day before the opening match.

This year, the Vietnamese futsal team is in Group A with Myanmar, Timor-Leste, and the host country, Thailand. Among them, the Thai team is considered a strong title contender and a formidable opponent from the group stage onwards.

To prepare for the tournament, the Vietnamese futsal team has been training since March 16 in Ho Chi Minh City, implementing a training program focused on improving physical fitness, enhancing tactical plans, and assessing the squad.

Sharing his vision for building the national team for this new phase, coach Diego Giustozzi stated that the technical staff is gradually rejuvenating the squad, in line with Vietnam’s long-term futsal goals. He emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for young players to gain international experience.

“We need to give young players a chance. For example, Thac Hieu has performed well with the U19 national team. The team has about two years to prepare for the 2028 Asian Championship, with the important goal of qualifying for the World Cup. So, this is the perfect time for young players to test themselves and integrate into the national team,” Giustozzi said.

Following the plan, after settling into their accommodations in Thailand, members of the Vietnamese futsal team will begin their final training sessions to complete their preparation for the regional competition.

Here is the schedule for the Vietnamese futsal team in the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship:

17:30, April 6: Vietnam vs. Myanmar

17:30, April 7: Timor-Leste vs. Vietnam

20:00, April 8: Thailand vs. Vietnam

All of the Vietnamese futsal team’s group stage matches will take place at the Nonthaburi Arena in Thailand.

The top two teams from Group A will qualify for the semi-finals on April 10, followed by the match for the third place and the final on April 12.
