The month of March was particularly rich in events for SOM Taekwondo. Between training sessions and competitions, the club had a busy schedule of sporting events. Let’s take a look back at this intense month.

Coupe du Tarn

The Tarn Taekwondo department organized the Coupe du Tarn on Saturday, March 21. Several clubs from the region participated in this event focused on discovery.

The competitions were open to practitioners who did not yet possess a black belt, allowing beginners and intermediates to showcase their skills. Participants, ranging from 4 to over 50 years old, were supervised by volunteers and black belts. They competed in various disciplines such as touchless assault, poomsae (codified technical movements), jumping kicks, and quick kicks on target.

In the afternoon, athletes geared up for combat with touches.

SOM Taekwondo was represented by twelve members, coached by their two instructors, Marc Boudes and Pierre Aznar.

Results of SOM Taekwondo:

  • Mathilde: Gold medal in poomsae, minime category.
  • Nelya: Bronze medal in assault, minime category.
  • Licia: Bronze medal in assault, poussin category.
  • Zephir: Gold medal in combat, cadet category.
  • Nathan: Silver medal in combat, benjamin category.
  • Alyzée: Silver medal in combat, cadet category.
  • Marius: Silver medal in combat, cadet category.

The club thanked CDT Tarn for the invitation and organization of the competition, and also expressed gratitude to the parents of members for their support.

Self-Defense Training Session

The second self-defense training session of the season took place on the morning of Saturday, March 14 at the SOM Taekwondo dojang.

About ten participants, including some new members, took part in the session. The session included revisions of previous aggression situations covered in earlier stages, focusing on refreshing memory and regaining proper reflexes. Participants were also able to present situations they had questions about.

A segment on falls was also offered, covering how to fall without injury and correcting bad habits.

The session concluded with striking exercises and a discussion on the content and expectations of each participant. The next self-defense session will be held on Saturday, June 6, from 9:30 am to 12 pm. Registrations are now open with Marc Boudes at 06 70 21 67 80.

Taekwondo Stage in Castries

On Sunday, March 22, the Taekwondo Hérault AMC club in Castries organized a training session led by Master Sébastien Arino, a 7th dan in taekwondo, 6th dan in hapkido, and former member of the French team.

Pierre Aznar, an instructor at SOM Taekwondo, participated in this enriching event. The session focused on posture, crucial in both technical and combat aspects, as well as an afternoon dedicated to self-defense (hoshinsul).

The stage ended with a Q&A session about taekwondo.

SOM Taekwondo thanked Sébastien Arino for the quality of the stage and Castries Taekwondo Hérault AMC for organizing the day.
