Indonesia-Australia Discuss Cooperation on Productivity
The Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto discussed enhancing cooperation in productivity with Australia, from e-government implementation to developing adaptive workforce to national recommendations on artificial intelligence (AI).
This was discussed by Airlangga when receiving the head of the Australian Productivity Commission Danielle Wood and the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Roderick Brazier in Jakarta, Friday, March 27. The meeting also highlighted strengthening human resources and Indonesian-Australian economic resilience in the face of global pressures.
“It should be emphasized that amidst global dynamics full of challenges, Indonesia is focusing on strengthening the productivity enhancement movement which goes hand in hand with the application of efficiency to drive sustainable economic growth,” said Minister Airlangga.
One of the priorities is the implementation of government studies on e-Government applications. According to Airlangga, this measure has the potential to increase productivity, even as efficiency policies are being implemented.
Airlangga also expressed support for the continuation of the PROSPERA program. In phase two of the program, the Indonesian government welcomes the participation of the Australian Productivity Commission to provide evidence-based policy recommendations to support policy reform and increase national productivity.
“As part of PROSPERA Phase II, the Australian Productivity Commission is expected to conduct research on developing a workforce adapted to technological advancements. Additionally, the formulation of national recommendations regarding the use of artificial intelligence in Indonesia is an important aspect to consider,” said Airlangga.
He also emphasized tax reform as a national priority agenda and hopes this issue will be at the center of attention for PROSPERA Phase II.
Meanwhile, Danielle Wood stated that Australia was ready to enhance cooperation to strengthen the capacity of the public service sector to encourage productivity, investment, and sustainable economic growth.
At the end of the meeting, Brazier reaffirmed the Australian government’s support for Indonesia’s accession process to the OECD and the CPTPP.
