Mass Unemployment and Precarity in Major Cities
Regarding the initial feedback on the unemployment reform and transfers to CPAS, he points out that there is a great disparity between geographical areas: “The exclusions from unemployment are proportionally higher at 35% and can even reach 50% in certain major cities: Charleroi, Liège… In fact, almost one out of every two unemployed people goes to RIS. And in small rural communities or even small cities, we are dealing with rates that are sometimes 20%. On average, I think we won’t be far from our 33-35%, but with quite significant sub-regional disparities, notably due to increasing precarity in major cities.”
Finally, he applauds the efforts made in terms of defense and the impact it will have on employment: “We have decided to invest 9 billion by 2030. Thousands of people will be hired. Huge job opportunities for our youth, purchasing opportunities for our businesses and especially the defense money returning to Belgian companies… Additionally, with Maxime Prévot (Deputy Prime Minister for the Engaged, editor’s note), we have united in collaboration with Théo Francken (N-VA Defense Minister, editor’s note). The neighborhood plan will have positive effects for the provinces of Namur and Luxembourg.”
