UN Urges Yemen’s Houthis to Stop Involvement in Middle East Conflict

The United Nations on Saturday urged the Houthis in Yemen to refrain from any further involvement in the conflict in the Middle East, especially through rocket or drone attacks, emphasizing that attacks by this group could further escalate the military conflict.

NEW YORK (United Nations), March 29 (Xinhua) — The United Nations on Saturday urged the Houthis in Yemen to refrain from any further involvement in the conflict in the Middle East, especially through rocket or drone attacks, emphasizing that attacks by this group could further escalate the military conflict.

“We are concerned about the Houthi missile strikes on Israel earlier in the day. These attacks could further widen the military conflict in the region,” said Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in a note to correspondents.

“We underscore that international law, including applicable international humanitarian law, must be respected by all parties at all times,” he added. “UN Security Council Resolution 2768 (2025) and subsequent resolutions regarding Houthi attacks on merchant and commercial ships must be fully respected.”

The Houthi armed forces in Yemen declared on Saturday that they had launched a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting “sensitive Israeli military sites” in southern Israel, marking the first such attack by the group since Israel and the United States launched massive attacks against Iran a month ago.

The group declared readiness to carry out new military actions, describing its recent strikes on Israel as an exercise of a “legitimate right” to confront what it called the “brutal American-Israeli aggression” against Iran and the entire region.

In a statement, the group’s foreign affairs authority stated that its intervention was part of a broader regional strategy linked to Iran, Palestine, Iraq, and Lebanon.
