The Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has told the public media Yle that it was “likely that they were Ukrainian drones, but the investigation needed to determine.” Finland shares a 1,340 km border with Russia. Mr. Orpo emphasized that Ukraine had carried out drone attacks on Russian infrastructure in areas near the Finnish border in recent days, and that Russian jamming devices may have diverted some of these drones from their trajectory. “The investigation into these events is ongoing and further information will be provided once verified,” said Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen. According to the Ministry of Defense, “several low-altitude and slow-moving flying objects have been observed in Finnish airspace, maritime area, and in the southeast of the country on Sunday morning.” The air force dispatched an F/A-18 Hornet fighter for identification mission, according to the same source. “One drone crashed north of Kouvola and another to the east. The police have cordoned off the areas for investigation,” said the Ministry of Defense.
