AirPods Max 2: 5 faults Apple still hasnt fixed

Apple has just introduced a new version of its AirPods Max earlier this month. Much to everyone’s surprise, the audio headset has evolved after over 5 years without any updates. The H2 chip notably brought a performance boost, whether in audio quality or noise reduction.

But this new generation did not eliminate all the flaws of the AirPods Max. In this article, we list 5 issues present in the first version that still remain despite the improvements made by Apple.

Same design
The first thing that catches the eye when looking at the AirPods Max 2 is its unchanged design from the first generation. Both devices are not similar, they are completely identical. Apple made no changes, neither in the aesthetic components nor in the color scheme.

The recipe of the AirPods Max still works well, but some risks and modifications would have been appreciated here and there. Many criticized the weight of the AirPods Max, but nothing has been done in this second version to reduce it.

Lossless audio, yes, but only wired
To enjoy music with the best possible quality, you need to use a cable. This is the sad truth when it comes to the AirPods Max 2. The audio headset, marketed by Apple as a wireless device, only reveals 100% of its capabilities with a cable.

Still a high price?
One of the major points that caused a stir in 2020 was the price. The AirPods Max was sold for 579 euros. Few were ready to pay 600 euros for a headset, an accessory. With this second version, Apple could have lowered the price of its product, but no changes have been made. No discounts are to be reported on this version.

Same storage case
Another major flaw of the AirPods Max 2 is that it still has a storage case, not a charger. When you place the audio headset in its case, it does not recharge, it does not even turn off. This is a deliberate choice by Apple.

No significant changes in sound
Apple has just delivered a second version of the AirPods Max, without any component changes. Technically, both headsets are identical. The H2 chip provides a power boost, but it’s almost a software evolution.

The sound quality of the device remains the same. The AirPods Max 2 has the same components with 40mm speakers. Considering the 5 and a half years between the first and second generation, a component change seems like the least that could be done.
