After several years of waiting, the dark and unique universe of Dorohedoro is set to make its return. The animated adaptation of Q Hayashida’s manga is back with a second season set to be released on April 1, 2026, on Netflix. Six years after the first season was released in 2020, this new wave of episodes plunges viewers back into the brutal world of Hole, a dystopian city where humans and sorcerers clash in a climate of violence and mystery.
Dorohedoro’s story unfolds in a dark universe where the line between science fiction and dark fantasy is blurred. The narrative follows Caiman, a man cursed to look like a lizard-humanoid and to lose his memory.
By the side of his friend Nikaido, he tries to uncover the identity of the sorcerer responsible for his transformation. To do so, he tracks down mages who come to the city of Hole to use its inhabitants as guinea pigs for their experiments.
The first season introduced several essential elements of this universe: – the city of Hole, an experimentation ground for sorcerers – the criminal group led by En – the complex relationship between Caiman and Nikaido – the protagonist’s quest for identity
The anime blends action scenes, dark humor, and a dystopian atmosphere. This combination has helped to establish the series as one of the standout works of contemporary dark fantasy.
The new season continues the events left hanging at the end of the first. Several mysteries remain unsolved, including Caiman’s true identity and the circumstances that led to his transformation.
The second season also introduces a new central element in the plot: the Cross-Eyes gang. This secretive organization sends several of its influential members, including Tetsugo and Dokuga, to Hole to find Caiman.
At the same time, the story continues to explore the secrets surrounding Nikaido. The first season already revealed that she possesses a particularly rare power related to time manipulation. This revelation could have major consequences for the story going forward.
The anime continues its adaptation of Q Hayashida’s manga by expanding on the conflicts between the different factions of the sorcerer world.
The animated series is produced by the renowned studio MAPPA, known for its contributions to contemporary Japanese animation. The first season stood out for its blend of traditional two-dimensional animation and CGI images to represent the unique appearance of Caiman and the visual world of the manga.
The new season continues this aesthetic approach while expanding the plot and settings explored. The story continues to primarily unfold in the city of Hole but opens up to the sorcerer organizations and their rivalries.
With its highly anticipated return since 2020, the series reconnects with its audience after several years of absence and continues the adaptation of the original manga published by Shogakukan.
The second season of Dorohedoro is available starting on April 1, 2026, on Netflix, with new episodes extending Caiman’s investigation into his past.
