It’s a small miracle. After a nearly fatal first attack on Sunday, an 11-year-old boy survived another shark attack on Monday in northern Sydney. According to the Australian police, the boy was attacked but managed to defend himself with his surfboard.
According to initial reports from the maritime rescuers, the predator had torn a piece of his board and left several bite marks. The child, miraculously, emerged unscathed.
“The fight of his life”
“He was very lucky,” said specialist David Baxter to ABC Australia, who has been studying sharks for 40 years. The conditions were ideal for species like the bull shark.”
This Sunday, Sydney was already shocked by a violent shark attack on a 13-year-old child who was jumping from the rocks. “He is still fighting for his life, and the emergency services’ actions yesterday gave him this chance,” explained Joe McNulty, commander of the maritime zone of the New South Wales police.
Unfortunately, the conditions were conducive to shark attacks in recent days, due in particular to a weekend of heavy rains that affect the water quality and bathers’ visibility.
To try to stem the phenomenon and prevent a third successive attack, authorities have banned swimming on several beaches around Sydney Harbor.
