(Torquay, VIC – Tuesday February 21, 2012): The Victorian SUP Titles Presented by VB is gearing up to take over Point Danger in Torquay this weekend.

As part of a nationwide series, which establishes a clear pathway from grassroots stand-up paddling through to State, National and World titles and ultimately the Olympic Games, the event gives local surfers the chance to compete against the best in the nation.

The top 4 Open men and top 1 Open woman from the Surfing division will be selected in the state team and will head the National SUP titles.

The series will be held across three divisions – surfing; Technical Race following a Battle of the Paddle style format between 4-8km; and 20km Marathon. The Technical Race will be held on boards 12’6 and under, and the Marathon will be held on boards 14’ and under with fixed fins. The Battle of the Paddle format involves several laps of a course paddling in and back out through the surf.

2011 Victorian SUP champion, Matt Lumley (Torquay), will be back to defend his title in the surfing division and have a crack at making the state team.

Lumley has had plenty of great results around the state and country including a second place at the National SUP Titles in 2009.

However, Lumley will have some tough competition in Will Cousins (Torquay) who placed in third last year and won the previous year.
