Forras and Laity take out 2012 Victorian Junior Surfing Titles

(Phillip Island, VIC – Monday February 20, 2012): Tristan Forras (Jan Juc) and Kelly Laity (Sandy Point) are the new Under 18 Victorian Junior Surfing Champions after both taking out the final event at Cape Woolamai over the weekend.

Forras was sitting in fourth place going into the final event but rocketed up the ratings with a big win in a final which saw the best young surfers from around the state battle it out.

Forras was the in form surfer all event amassing the highest heat total in the opening two round of 14.17 (out of a total of 20).

Francis Meade placed in second in the final in front of Tom Wright and Walter Hiatt who placed third and fourth respectively.

In the under 18 girls, Kelly Laity finally earned a first place after coming second in the first two rounds.

The win saw her take out the title of 2012 Victorian Junior Champion over Ruby Campbell (Jan Juc).

Laity has been in blistering form recently, taking out the East Coast open titles and placing third in the Phillip Island Open.

Maddie Corstorphan (Torquay) and Ruby Campbell (Jan Juc) placed in second and third whilst Tabby Vockler (Mornington Peninsula) and Meg Sweeney (Jan Juc) placed fourth and fifth in the final.

The big news of the day was the continued rivalry between Joe Van Dijk (Phillip Island) and Cody Robinson (Jan Juc), which saw Robinson come out on top and take home the title.

With one win each, it came down to the final at Phillip Island. Van Dijk was unable to get it done at home however placing in second behind Robinson, giving him the title.

Noah Cooney (Phillip Island) and Joel Wookey (Mornington Peninsula) placed behind the two in third and fourth.

Zoe Clarke (Jan Juc) took out the Under 16 Girls in amazing weekend for the young surfer who also took out the Open Womens event.

Clarke took down Jemima Hutchins (Barwon Heads), Courtney Dunlop (Phillip Island) and Koko DiSciascio (Jan Juc).

In the Under 14 Boys, it was Billy Harrison who took the win in the small conditions.

Harrison beat Takuto Ohta (Phillip Island), Henry Hutchins (Barwon Heads) and Max Lazarus (Point Lonsdale).

The Victorian Junior Surfing Titles is Supported by Play it Safe by the Water, Surfing Victoria and the Illicit drugs in Sport Program.
