Whites Beach Playground Opens

Whites Beach Playground

The new Whites Beach Playground will be officially opened at a public ceremony this Sunday 20 November from 3pm-4:30pm.

The ceremony is open to everyone and will feature live music, a sausage sizzle and activities for the kids and, of course, the opportunity to try out the playground’s facilities including a flying fox, bird’s nest swing, climbing net and sand put.

The $80,000 playground also includes an art trail and community art installations. The playground's unique design for all ages and abilities has been inspired by the local flora and fauna and also the cultural heritage of the Whites Beach area with great input from the Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation.

Many groups and individuals have been involved in this project including local artists, local school children and disability agencies assisting with artwork projects, the Torquay Men’s Shed, the Torquay Lions Club and Torquay Coast Action.

Mayor, Cr Dean Webster, said the playground would not only provide an important play and outdoor social space for the community but it also provides a great connection to the cultural heritage of this land.

“The community feedback regarding this playground has been overwhelmingly positive and it is great to see so many families using the area,” Cr Webster said.
