Sewer Works Start At Bells Beach

Bells Beach toilet blockSurf Coast Shire has started work on a private sewer main that will connect toilets at Bells Beach to the sewer system.

In a major infrastructure boost to be delivered before summer, the sewer main will further help protect the environment at Bells Beach and manage the impacts of increasing visitation at the reserve.

Mayor, Cr Dean Webster said the project was an important part of delivering the Bells Beach Coastal Management Plan, which Council adopted in September 2010.

“This project is vital in the ongoing protection of Bells Beach,” Cr Webster said.

Council will deliver most of the private 2km long sewer and 1.7km of potable water main using directional boring; particularly along Bells Beach Road and around the Bells Beach car park, to minimise any impact to the area.

“The need for toilets at the reserve to be connected to the sewer main has been well-documented; with Council regularly pumping out the old septic system to ensure it did not affect the natural environment.”

Minimal disruptions to traffic and car parking are expected while the project is delivered. Regular reserve users are advised to observe on-site signs.

The sewer main is a $255,000 project being delivered with funding support from the Victorian Government.
