The High Tide Arts Festival Committee this week announced Bellbrae artist David Rossiter as the winner of the 2011 logo design competition.
Committee chair Martin Duke said that this year’s competition attracted a strong field of entries from across the Surf Coast, reflecting the depth of artistic talent in the local community.
“There were some really excellent entries, which made it very difficult to choose a winner,” explained Mr Duke.
“In the end however, David’s eye-catching design stood out in terms of its overall concept and use of colour. The committee was particularly impressed by the way this year’s festival theme, ‘Awakening the Senses’, is represented by the logo.
“As something completely different and ‘out of the box’, the logo also reflects the new directions for the High Tide Arts Festival, which sees the local community taking a stronger role in its overall organisation and management,” Mr Duke said.
David Rossiter admitted to being delighted upon learning of his success after three previous attempts over the past 10 years. “It’s great to finally win one,” he said.
“I have tried to incorporate all five senses in the design with the piercing eyes, big ear, prominent nose and mouth, and hands. These features, along with a second face in profile, are intended to give the impression of trying to capture as much as you can, using all your senses, at this year’s festival,” Mr Rossiter explained.
As committee chair, Mr Duke congratulated David and thanked everyone who entered this year’s logo design competition.
He also said that anyone can be involved in helping to shape the 2011 High Tide Arts Festival just by attending a committee meeting to share their ideas or playing a bigger role as a committee member.
“The festival committee meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the shire offices in Grossmans Road. Anyone is welcome to attend to share their knowledge, skills and ideas, and/or to help organise this year’s festival,” said Mr Duke.
“There are numerous opportunities to be involved with our next meeting taking place on 8 September.”
