Please take time to check out the following video which shows our community voice in action.
The Red Rally was held in Torquay to protest against the development of the Spring Creek valley from Duffields Road to Bellbrae. Over 2,500 people, a quarter of the population of Torquay/Jan Juc attended the rally. Today developers are pushing ahead with plans to develop and destroy Spring Creek against the wishes of the community. This video showcases the issues and the voice of the people.
Three years on, the issues are the same, as developers try to destroy Spring Creek Valley in Torquay and put significant population pressures on the surrounding coastal and marine environments.
Here we are two and half years after the Red Rally we held in 2009 and a clip turns up on you tube from that original Rally. It reminds me that what the community of Surf Coast turned out then to say was we want to be part of the changes that occure.
We do not want planners to dictate how the change occures, we do not want developers to dictate how change occures. We want the community to be a large part of the change. We want to have an ownership of the change.
Tomorrow Night we want our council, our elected representitives to reject the resolutions put up by the council officers, the planners and developers. We want them to reject the gun put the councils head by The Minister for Planning.
We want a town boundry at Duffields Road and a low impact development in a section of the first Km of the valley that the community has a major part designing.
We want a change from the big growth model for many here there are things we cherish that do not have a dollar value and seem therfore to have no value and are ignored, this must change.
