Help Celebrate World Environment Day 2011

World Environment Day 2011

World Environment Day (WED) is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action.

WED activities take place all year round but climax on 5 June every year, involving everyone from everywhere.

Once again it is time to celebrate World Environment Day on 5 June and World Oceans Day on 8 June with day-to-day actions and by joining others in upcoming environmental events.

Department of Sustainability and Environment Coast Action / Coastcare Facilitator Joanne Lubrook said wherever people look they can get involved in protecting and enhancing the natural environment and finding other ways to make a difference.

“Several opportunities over coming days will give people a chance to celebrate ‘World Environment Day and do their bit for the local environment,” Ms Ludbrook said.

“You can learn how to create a habitat garden, go to a fund-raising movie and join the Marine Education Society of Australasia (MESA).”

Ms Ludbrook said the little things that people do in their own time can also make a big difference.

“You can clean up after your pet and be a responsible pet owner and contact Wildlife Rescue when you find sick or injured wildlife,” she said.

“You can do your bit to keep pollutants and rubbish out of our drains and off our beaches and tackle simple actions to save water. You can also get involved on a regular basis by becoming a volunteer and making a really big difference,” she said.
