The Surf Coast Shire is joining local businesses in Torquay to provide 18 live sites where you can enjoy the action with some of the best local hospitality available.
As the swell builds, the pro will be screened live at:
- The Rip Curl Pro Shop, Torquay Visitor Centre in Surf City
- Westpac Bank in Gilbert Street
- Bells Beach Hotel in Jan Juc
- Growlers, Front Beach Café, Zeally’s Bar and Grill and on the Torquay Esplanade
- Torquay Hotel in Bell Street
- Peppers the Sands Resort.
A mobile live site will also be doing the rounds of the Surf Coast; appearing at the Torquay College Fair, Torquay Central Farmers Market, the VFL match between Geelong and Williamstown at Spring Creek Reserve, the Anglesea Riverbank Market, Lorne Foreshore and Aireys Inlet Bottom Shops.
Mayor, Cr Dean Webster, said the live broadcast would help make the 50th anniversary of the Rip Curl Pro even more significant.
“Now, wherever you are on the Surf Coast, there’s a great opportunity to enjoy this event,” Cr Webster said.
Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan said the Victorian Government was delighted to support the live broadcast as part of its $40 000 grant towards the Rip Curl Pro.
“This broadcast initiative will help to raise the profile of the event as well as strengthen ties with the community and local business,” he said.
Cr Webster said Rip Curl Pro celebrations would also include the Bells Gold exhibition at Surf World and the Gathering of the Tribe reunion at Bells Beach on Saturday 16 April.
