Award-winning international surf films and some of Australia’s best will feature in a four-day festival of surf film running at Torquay’s Surf World Museum from December 27-30.
Arguably the best collection of surf cinema shown in Australia, the festival will include a diverse and exciting range of surf films from around Australia and the rest of the world.
Highlights of the film program include a special screening of the iconic Australian documentary Bombora; the extraordinary tale of how surfing went from an obscure Hawaiian pastime reserved for Hawaiian kings to become an Australian obsession and international phenomena.
Other films being shown include Dark Fall, which is having its Australian Premier screening at the Surf World Film Festival.
This award-winning documentary follows a year in the life of New Jersey’s best surfers as they tackle some of the best surf in their own backyard. It features Kelly Slater, Andy Irons and Cory Lopez.
The film wowed audiences, taking out the major awards at the prestigious New York Surf Film Festival.
Another highlight of the festival is the super cool California surf safari Stoked and Broke which is also having its Australian Premier at Surf World.
Stoked and Broke features Ryan and Cyrus as they make their own surfboards, bamboo rickshaw, solar cookers and head off along the California coast on a surfari – with no budget and ambitions of getting great waves!
Festival Co-ordinator John Foss said the program promises to be a summer hit with movie buffs and surf fans.
"The Surf World International Surf Film Festival will provide fantastic entertainment this summer. The festival features the latest award winning surf films and surfing documentaries from around the world. We are delighted to be chosen for the Australia premier of Dark Fall and Stoked and Broke," Mr Foss said.
The Surf World International Surf Film Festival will also feature a diverse range of surfing short films and historical documentaries.
The Surf World International Film Festival is running from Surf World Museum Beach Road Torquay from Monday 27th – Thursday 30th December.
The Surf World International Film Festival is being held at the Surf World Museum in Torquay. Surf World is the largest surfing museum in the world and is open seven days a week. The festival will play a key role in supporting the museum as it promotes Australian surf culture to the world.
