No voter will be turned away from a voting centre for failing to enrol or update their details in ime for November’s State election.
Recent changes to Victorian legislation mean that people will now be able to enrol and vote on the spot at any early voting centre or election day voting centre.
Steve Tully, Electoral Commissioner said; “Electors who missed out on the close of rolls won’t miss out on their chance to have their say in the election. As long as they have a driver licence or an electricity bill or rates notice with their current address to declare they are eligible they will be able to enrol on the spot and cast a provisional vote.”
“Obviously, it will take longer so I’d ask for people taking advantage of this new option to allow extra time to complete their vote.”
Provisional votes will be included in the count once the identification details are checked with the relevant agency and verified.
Victorians are reminded that enrolling and voting are compulsory in Victoria.
