A series of postcards celebrating our love affair with the beach will be released at this year’s St Leonards Festival.
The cards, best described as “mini original artworks” are from the easel of local painter Eileen Jenkins.
Ms. Jenkins has been a long-time supporter of the town’s arts community and is a regular contributor to the prestigious Bellarine Art Show, held concurrently with the Festival.
Her works are often characterised by their vibrant colours and quirky images.
St Leonards Festival organiser Steve Walsh said there is a sense of both fun and nostalgia radiating from each of the four scenes that comprise the post card set.
“These images of the beach and parklands capture the spirit of our small bayside community”, he said.
“They are a celebration of beach life and of our interaction with the natural surrounds”.
Eileen Jenkins has generously donated the original art works to the St Leonards Progress Association so that the series of commemorative post cards can be reproduced.
Only a limited number of sets will be made available.
All proceeds will go to the St Leonards Progress Association.
The highly collectable postcard sets will be launched at the St Leonards Progress Hall on Saturday, 30th October.
They will be available at various local outlets over the Melbourne Cup weekend and at the beachfront markets held each Saturday during the summer.
“They will be a wonderful keepsake for all those who have visited or live in our bay side fishing village”, Mr. Walsh said.
“These cards will be a perfect reminder of the enjoyable times people have spent at St Leonards”.
The St Leonards Festival is a major celebration of the township’s culture and history and boasts a wide range of activities.
Live music, dancing, vintage cars, food stalls, local produce, a history walk and two separate photographic exhibitions are on the agenda.
Young people are especially catered for with face painting, a baby animal farm, electronic games van and a skate ramp.
The Festival also hosts a major fishing competition in which a record number of entrants will vie for more than a thousand dollars in trophies and prizes.
