Organisers of the annual Bellarine Art Show predict this year’s event will be one of the most successful of its kind ever staged in the region

The show, now in its sixth year, has attracted 300 exhibits from 68 individual local artists. Most of the pieces are oil paintings, water-colours, acrylics or pastels but there are also a number of ceramic objects and sculptures. All items on display are being offered for sale.

Show organiser John Royal said sales at last year’s show topped twenty-one thousand dollars.

“In a relatively short period we have become a major showcase for artists from throughout the peninsula and surrounding region”, he said.

“We are widely considered the one of the largest and most significant art shows in the district”.

The show will be held in the premises of the St. Leonards Yacht Club over the Melbourne Cup weekend, October 29th to 31st.

It will be officially opened at 7.30 on the Friday evening by the Member for the Western District, Mr. David Koch MLC. The show will also be open from 11am to 8pm on the Saturday and from 11am to 5pm on the Sunday.

The Bellarine Art Show is being held in conjunction with the St Leonards Festival, which this year is being staged on Saturday 30th October. The Festival will present a variety of culinary, cultural and historic exhibits as well as a host of activities for young people.

It will also feature exhibits of vintage, veteran and classic cars and a family fishing competition with prizes valued at more than a thousand dollars.

The Art Show will be directly accessible from the Festival site in Bluff Road via a free shuttle-bus service. This service will link the Festival site and the nearby towns of Indented Head and Portarlington with the Art Show venue.
