Date: 14th – 17th October 2010
Venue: Geelong Show Grounds
The Royal Geelong Agricultural & Pastoral Society will celebrate its 155th Show this year. This is quite an achievement for an event that started as a ploughing match in 1855.
The first show attracted 200 people, nowadays the Royal Geelong Show attracts on average 100,000 people over 4 days. This represents not only the change in dynamics of the Society but also the Geelong region.
Over 40 agricultural competitions are on offer to tempt the taste buds of competitors including cattle, horses, sheep, dogs, poultry, rabbits, fleece, prime lamb, beef carcase, fodder, pasture, ute show and woodchop. We sure have come a long way since the awarding of Table Apples in 1861!
This year our feature breeds are Border Leicester sheep, and Simmental cattle.
“The Society is also currently working through the process of preparing redevelopment plans for the main arena and a sustainable water harvesting and management program to ensure our viability and longevity for another 155 years.” stated CEO Sharolyn Taylor.
“The Royal Geelong Show provides a unique outlet to showcase individual talents and promote rural activities and interests to the wider Geelong region. We encourage all members of the rural community to support this year’s show and look forward to entries from across the state.” Ms Taylor added.
The 2010 Royal Geelong Show will be held from Thursday 14 to Sunday 17 October.
